WEYMOUTH have announced that midfielder Josh Carmichael has joined the club on a one-year contract.

The 22-year-old former Scottish youth international confirmed the deal at the Terras’ pre-season training session at Blandford School this evening.

Carmichael, who made his Football League debut for AFC Bournemouth at Exeter in September 2011, was part of the set-up at the Vitality Stadium since the age of 10.

He was capped by Scotland at under-16 level in 2009 before receiving an under-19 call-up four years later.

The former Cherries’ scholar arrives at the Bob Lucas Stadium from Gosport Borough, where he featured more than 20 times last season.

Speaking about the deal, Weymouth assistant Paul Maitland told Echosport: “He has come to the club having agreed to be released from Gosport Borough and played for the first team at Bournemouth on a few occasions.

“He fits what we are looking for, technically he is a good player but, having spent a year at Conference South level as well, he knows the rigours of non-League football.

“Physically, he is a good specimen and will add more quality to the squad.”

Maitland added: “He can play in three different positions through the middle. We see him as being able to give us an option as centre-half and in central midfield.

“We are pleased to have beaten people to get him. He was one that was high on our list at the end of the season.”
