WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley respects the “experience” and athleticism possessed by old rivals St Albans City ahead of the Terras’ trip to Clarence Park in the Vanarama National League South tomorrow (3pm).

The two sides will renew a rivalry that stretches back to 2006 when 10-man Weymouth defeated Saints 3-2 on their way to the Conference South title.

Most recently, goals from Ben Thomson and Ryan Glover dumped St Albans out of an FA Trophy third qualifying round replay in a 2-0 win last season.

However, Saints are an established sixth-tier side and Molesley is cautious ahead of the fixture.

He told Echosport: “We obviously had a good couple of games against them last year. They probably know a little bit about us and we know a little about them.

“A lot of things have changed since then, so we can’t read too much into that previous game, that was nearly a year ago.

“They’re a good side, a well-established (National League) South side. As I repeat myself most weeks, all of the games are tough challenges.

“They’ve got a good mixture of experience, athletes, pace and good footballers. All the teams turn up a lot of different challenges and we certainly expect a tough one from St Albans.”

Weymouth have proven tough to beat away from home this season, losing just once in five games – a 1-0 defeat at Chippenham Town.

Molesley said: “We take each game in isolation, whether it’s home or away. We will go to win every game of football we play in, that’s always been our way and for us to make our home form as strong as we can.

“To make that count we’re going to have to pick up some wins on the road as well.

“I feel we haven’t got the points return we deserve on our travels this season, we’ve been unlucky in some of our draws.

“We could’ve turned some draws into wins and our record would look as strong as our home one, but it isn’t and that’s something for us to improve. We’ll be looking to do that as soon as we can.”

Weymouth continue to monitor the progress of injured duo Josh McQuoid (hamstring) and Sam Sherring (ankle).

Molesley said: “They’re getting assessed and (tomorrow) might come too soon for those two.

“We hope they’re weeks rather than months and hopefully they’ll be back playing soon.”
