Five-star Weymouth dismantle dismal Dorchester Town

WEYMOUTH 5

Goodship 8, Thomson 11, 41, McQuoid 23, 87

DORCHESTER TOWN 0

A DOMINANT Weymouth tore apart the Dorchester defence in a rampant 5-0 win at the Bob Lucas Stadium in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Josh McQuoid played a starring role as he stormed the Magpies’ defence to play a vital role in three of the goals.

Ben Thomson was alert and took two good opportunities to bag a brace, while Brandon Goodship opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the season.

The Terras came into this match having not lost to Dorchester for three years and are now unbeaten in the league so far this year with four wins and one draw.

Meanwhile, Dorchester have had a tougher start to the season, with one win, three losses and a draw, however, that win was an impressive 4-2 win against fellow Dorset rivals Wimborne.

Weymouth made one change to the side that beat Chesham United 5-0 last time out, with Abdulai Baggie coming in for Antonio Diaz, while Jordan Ngalo made his return from injury and came off the bench in the 57th minute.

Dorchester made just the one change as Callum Rose returned from a one-game suspension he picked up in the 3-0 against Salisbury to replace Dom Panesar-Dower.

After a good start from Dorchester, Abdulai Baggie dispossessed Harry Kite early on and moved the ball swiftly up to Thomson, leading to a free-kick for Weymouth which Josh Wakefield swung in but the ball was headed clear.

Not long after Baggie chased down a ball seemingly headed for a Dorchester goal-kick and pulled it back across to Goodship, who took a touch before having his shot blocked.

Goodship then took his tally to eight goals for the season in the eighth minute when he intercepted a woeful backpass from Kyle Egan to stride forward and round Kingsley Latham to stroke home.

Weymouth began to dominate as a shot taken on the run by McQuoid earned a corner, which was swung in and Josh Carmichael against Kyle Egan on the line but Thomson fired in tthe rebound to give the Terras a healthy 2-0 lead.

McQuoid was proving a real threat down the left-hand side and almost caught the Magpies out when they intercepted Goodship on the run but from the backpass McQuoid gained possession and took a shot that deflected out for a corner.

Baggie then broke through and was caught by Ross Carmichael which earned the Dorchester man a yellow card.

Ashley Wells fouled Cameron Murray which was swung in but dealt with by Stephane Zubar, before Kite’s effort from 25 yards out was dealt with comfortably by Jordan Seabright.

The Terras then dealt a third blow to the Magpies when Baggie again strode down the right-hand side to glide a perfect cross over to McQuoid who headed back across goal and into the net for his first Weymouth goal.

Wells was given a yellow card for a sliding challenge on Neil Martin and the Magpies created a chance out of it when a cross from Billy Lowes narrowly dropped over the crossbar.

The Terras then had a fourth and again McQuoid was fantastic as he broke forward and pulled the ball back for Thomson to fire in easily from 10 yards out.

Lowes nearly scored for Dorchester at the end of the half but headed over from close range.

The second half began quietly and it took 10 minutes for the first real chance to come when Thomson retrieved the ball from Goodship and fired in with Latham doing well to save.

Dorchester were coming back into the game, with efforts from Pope, Cameron Murray and Blair but neither really tested Terras’ stopper Seabright.

McQuoid went on another superb run down the left-hand side but the ball could not find Goodship and was instead cleared away by the Magpies.

The second half was low key as the Terras seemed content, while the Magpies still could not craft a clear shot through the Weymouth defence.

Ngalo marked his return to the side off the bench and had a good run before he was caught but from the free-kick Josh Carmichael scuffed a shot wide.

The Terras began hunting for a five-star finish to the match and got it when McQuoid earned a second, firing through a crowded box and past Latham in the 87th minute to complete the rout against their nearest rivals.
