Weymouth see off Poole to reach semi-finals
POOLE TOWN 0
WEYMOUTH progressed to the semi-finals of the Dorset Senior Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Poole Town at a cold Bob Lucas Stadium.
Weymouth made eight changes to the side that began Saturday’s 2-1 win over Hungerford Town, boss Mark Molesley bringing in the likes of Stephane Zubar, Ade Olumuyiwa and Callum Buckley, making his return from an ankle injury.
After an energetic start from both teams in chilly conditions, Weymouth grabbed a goal from the penalty spot as Brett Williams tucked home into the bottom-left corner past Poole keeper Harry Phillips in the 20th minute.
Phillips produced a superb save from Ollie Harfield midway through the half and Weymouth ended the first period on top as Williams nodded wide from six yards out.
Williams proved a thorn in Poole’s side all night and fired inches wide on 59 minutes as Weymouth pushed for a second in a largely stale second half.
That lull was brought to an end when Pat Suraci made it 2-0 on his first start since rejoining the club from Gosport, firing home after numerous Weymouth strikes were blocked.
Poole fought on and saw Ollie Dennett brilliantly denied by Tom Rees but Weymouth were never seriously troubled in making the semi-finals.
