Match Preview: Hungerford Town v Weymouth – Saturday 18th December 2021 – 15:00
It’s FA Trophy action for the Terras this weekend as they take on National League South outfit Hungerford Town at Bulpit Lane.
THE TERRAS
Brian Stock’s side are coming off the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat to Wrexham last weekend. Jordan Davies’ free kick proved to be the decisive goal in a game in which Weymouth worked very hard to soak up pressure and deny Wrexham further opportunities on goal. However, it is a good opportunity this weekend to have a break from league action and secure a place in the next round to get back to winning ways before the team head into a busy festive period in the league.
Brian Stock on the cup and preparations: “It’s a competition we want to win, no different to what it was last year and how we approach every single game. We’ve had a good week’s build-up to this game, and we’ve looked at one or two things in training this week as well.”
On Hungerford: “They are a very honest and hard-working team, with quality up front in the likes of Seager. They are resolute, they know what they are about. We need to make sure that we rise to the occasion and we’re fully expecting a tough game against a team that are doing well in their league. We know their strengths and weaknesses and it’s important that we impose our game onto them.”
On how he expects his team to perform: “Although we defended well against Wrexham, we need to have that same mentality going into the game and align that with the attacking threat that we possess when we start at 3pm tomorrow.”
Player To Watch: Martell Taylor-Crossdale
Martell was very lively and energetic in the defeat to Wrexham and almost had a chance to snatch a point near the end. Martell, who is yet to score for the Terras, may eye this game as an opportunity to get his first goal for the club which may give him the confidence to kick on in the league as well.

THE CRUSADERS
Danny Robinson’s side come into this fixture against the Terras off the back of a 1-0 away win against Bath City in the National League South. They currently sit 9th in the table and have picked up three wins in their previous six matches. Notable victories for Hungerford Town this season include a 3-2 win over Maidstone United and a 3-1 away win against St Albans City. Hungerford Town booked their spot in Round 3 of the FA Trophy by beating fellow National League South outfit Welling United 3-2 with Seager, Smith and Tyler on the scoresheet for the Crusaders. Hungerford also reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup but were knocked out by National League side Bromley by a narrow 2-1 victory.
Player To Watch: Ryan Seager
Seager, who came through Southampton’s academy and was capped twice by England U17s, has continued his fine scoring form since his arrival in 2020, with double figures for league goals to his name already. He will be the main threat in the Hungerford Town front line, with the Terras defence needing to be able to restrict his chances in front of goal on Saturday.
