JASON Matthews revealed Weymouth striker Ben Thomson is set to miss this weekend’s Boxing Day derby clash against Dorchester Town through injury.
Thomson was forced off with a hamstring problem after around 30 minutes during Weymouth’s feisty 1-1 draw at St Neots Town and replaced by Stewart Yetton.
The Terras’ player-boss, who is still nursing his own injury problem, said: “Ben, we think, has done a grade one tear of the hamstring which is a big blow and he will be out for around two to three weeks which is not ideal over the Christmas period.
“He will miss both derbies (against Poole and Dorchester) but that’s football, he has done well for us. One door closes and another door opens.”
Reflecting on the game itself, the player-manager claimed: “I thought it was a fair result.
“St Neots had the better of the first half and we didn’t really get off the coach. In the second half we put in a good performance. It wasn’t pretty, but I felt we deserved the draw and there was only one team that was going to win it in the end.”

He added: “Andrew (Dawber) made some good saves in goal for us and was commanding on crosses.
“He had a good game in fairness to him but, on the whole, when you play teams like St Neots, it doesn’t make for a good game because of the way they play.”
