A LATE comeback from the Terras which included a 90th-minute winner from Dan Smith meant they overcame Barnstaple Town 3-2 and secured back-to-back pre-season victories.
And manager Jason Matthews made it perfectly clear he would be looking to make trialist Smith a permanent fixture in the squad for the upcoming campaign.
Having trailed 2-0 after 58 minutes due to a couple of defensive lapses at Mill Road, Weymouth responded strongly having made changes. Their other goals also came through Stewart Yetton and Billy Lowes.
Speaking about the performance, the player-manager, who started himself for the first time in pre-season, told Echosport: “It was a fantastic workout and it showed the value of having a squad.
“Yetts had a very good game and it was lovely to see him score. He scored another which I personally didn’t feel was offside.
“It was lovely to play my first game, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was great to have the camaraderie with the boys out on the pitch.”
Quizzed about goalscorer Smith, he added: “I don’t think anyone doubts Dan’s ability and hopefully we can agree terms in the next day or two.
“I will make it no secret, I have liked him as a player for quite a while.
“He brings something different to what we have in the squad. I am definitely looking to sign him as I am Aaron Rodriguez.”
The Terras also gave a trial to centre-half Jack Vallis, who went off as a precaution with a hamstring problem.
