CHAIRMAN Chris Pugsley believes “the whole club is buzzing” ahead of what could be an FA Cup cracker for Weymouth against Kidderminster Harriers today (3pm).
The Terras head to Aggborough having sold out two supporters’ coaches full of fans hoping to reach the first round proper.
As well as the significant financial boost that would help the club should they progress in the tie, Terras’ chief Pugsley admits it would be a dream for him to see his side feature in a big first round showdown.
Asked what a place in the next stage of the famous competition would mean to him, Pugsley told Echosport: “It’s what every non-League chairman dreams of.
“You dream of the next round and you dream of a draw against a big side that will bring the cameras down to the Bob Lucas Stadium.
“That’s still a dream, we have a job to do today, but there’s no need for us to go to Kidderminster and fear.
“I’m not one for looking further than the game in front of us but I think there will be an awful lot of people listening to the (first round) draw if we get into it, that’s for sure.
“I know the players will because we do obviously make a bit of money from the cup run and they do have a share of that money.
“Their end-of-season trip was starting off in Torquay, it’s sort of now progressed to Ibiza and I guess if we get another game or two in the FA Cup, they will all be off to Vegas! So happy days for them.”
He added: “The last few weeks, obviously, Moles (Mark Molesley) and Jase (Matthews) have got the players playing the formation which they obviously like and are scoring goals from. The team is looking much more lethal.
“There was a great performance against Hitchin and a fantastic performance against Basingstoke, so things are shaping up nicely.
“They are all buzzing and the whole club is buzzing to be honest. The club is on a high. We are taking two coaches up there for the game.
“We need to play the likes of Gosport and Kidderminster to see how we compete against them if we are going to get back to where we belong. We do need these games to measure what we need to do and what we need to bring in to get where we need to be.”
As well as bonuses for the current squad, the chairman did not rule out investing further into the playing budget with the cup funds, should the Terras improve their league position.
Quizzed on what the extra cup revenue would be spent on, the director replied: “We have a bit of work that needs doing around the ground and we are working on grants to help us do that.
“There won’t be a panic to invest it, money will be spent on the ground but if Jason comes to me in January and his budget is at the limit and we are in with a shout, I’m not going to say to him ‘sorry Jason it’s not there’.
“I’ll say ‘there’s your money, get us into the next league up’.”
