MANAGER Jason Matthews believes he has seen changes in his squad’s attitude, which has coincided with their upturn in form.
Weymouth, who beat Cinderford Town 3-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday, have recorded back-to-back league wins and have now scored nine times in their last two fixtures.
The Terras will be looking for a hat-trick of league successes this evening when they make the trip to relegation-threatened Cambridge City (7.45pm).
And, while he hailed a change in mentality, Matthews has also been pleased to see a cutting edge from his side in front of goal.
He told Echosport: “I have seen a little bit of a change in the squad’s attitude in the last couple of weeks when our backs were against the wall.
“We need to keep things up now, there’s no two ways about it.
“Weymouth is a big club in this league and we are not quite where we want to be at the moment, I need to keep working and pushing away.
“We have still left ourselves a mountain to climb but we need to keep picking up the wins and see what happens.”
He added: “The difference on Saturday compared to previous weeks is we have taken our chances.
“Fleets (Stuart Fleetwood) has hit a bit of form now and took his (two) goals very well. It makes a difference when you have a goalscorer and Saturday proved it.”
Looking ahead to tonight’s test against a City side who overcame Chesham United 3-1 at the weekend, Matthews added: “It’s a tricky trip and not a great pitch to go to, so we will be testing ourselves in a different way.
“They had a good result against Chesham on Saturday so they will be no mugs. I have read they have made four new signings in the last week with a little bit of backing, so it definitely won’t be a pushover.”
Giving an update on those struggling with injuries in his squad Matthews added: “Ben Thomson still feels he is a week to two weeks away and it’s the same with Mark Cooper.
“Dean (Evans) has been to the doctors and they think he may have a hernia. He has had it for quite a while and feels he can play through it but, with games on a Saturday and Monday, I felt it was best to give him a breather.
“Calvin (Brooks) has made good progress over the last week, we will see how he goes but he won’t be fit for Monday.”
