JASON Matthews admitted he was left frustrated as his side squandered the advantage away from home, in a 2-1 defeat to Cambridge City tonight.
Following an early strike from Stuart Fleetwood to put them in the box seat, the Terras were left licking their wounds after second-half goals from City’s Matt Foy and Darren Foxley, who were both brought in by the Lilywhites as two of five additions last week, gave the hosts three points.
Matthews’ preparations were also not aided by the fact he could only name three substitutes on the evening, after late drop-outs from Conor Jevon and Aaron Rodriguez, due to work commitments, left the away side stretched.
On the game itself, Matthews told Echosport: “I felt that we played the conditions well in the first half but in the second half we did the wrong things for five minutes and got punished with two goals – that’s probably the story of our season.
“In the last 10 minutes we mixed it up and had to go for it. It wasn’t to be and I am incredibly frustrated.”
Speaking about the lack of options on the bench, he added: “Conor Jevon had somebody let him down at work and he had to stay on. It was impossible for him to leave.
“Aaron Rodriguez also couldn’t make it due to work commitments, both of those were late on, which left me very limited on the bench.”
The Terras’ preparations for the encounter were also massively hit ahead of kick-off at Westwood Road, with the club’s coach only managing to reach its destination 40 minutes ahead of the start.
“I did the team talk on the coach and it’s frustrating from my point of view personally,” Matthews added.
“We had to warm up and then stay straight out there, which was frustrating, but that’s where we were at.”
