HAT-TRICK hero Stuart Fleetwood admits “the sky is the limit” if he keeps up his remarkable scoring form for the Terras at present.
Three more goals were added to the striker’s tally in a Weymouth shirt during the visitors’ slick 6-1 victory at Basingstoke Town on Saturday.
That moves the red-hot frontman’s recent record to eight goals in five league fixtures and 11 goals in his last 12 games.
And the proven goal-getter insists that he will do all he can to keep his sublime spell of finding the net going.
He told Echosport: “I have just hit a run of form now, which is what I wanted to do since I got here.
“I feel fit now, I feel strong and have always had faith in my own ability. Once the first couple of goals go in, for any striker it’s just a confidence thing.
“I am going into every game now thinking I can score, and that’s perfect for the team and myself.”
He added: “At the end of the day, it is what I am there to do. I have scored goals throughout my career and if we are not winning games I put a lot of pressure on myself personally – I’m the one who should be scoring.
“People aren’t going to worry about how well I play, it’s whether I am scoring goals. Luckily I have been doing that since the turn of the year and long may it continue.
“If I carry on this form, then the sky is the limit. I will just keep plugging away and my little boy now just thinks that I am going to score in every game – every week he is telling me to go and score.”
On the game itself, a victory which moved Weymouth up to 11th in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, Fleetwood added: “I think we were very clinical and very ruthless.
“That little ruthless streak was something we have maybe missed during the season.
“I felt like it was one of our most professional performances against a good young team in Basingstoke.”
Despite netting a treble at the Camrose, one thing Fleetwood did not manage to pick up was the match ball, after he was unable to get his hands on it when the game had finished.
But the striker did not let it dampen his afternoon and admitted he had a replacement lined up to mark the occasion.
“It would have been nice to take it (the match ball) home for the kids to see but the three goals can’t be taken away, whether I have the ball or not,” he claimed.
“That was my third hat-trick in my career. I have a Conference ball and a Carling Cup one as well.
“I’ll have to borrow one of my little boy’s ones and get it signed up or something!”
