JASON Mathews has urged his Terras’ squad to prove to supporters that they want to be at the club next season.
The Weymouth boss, who has already insisted his charges are playing for their futures at the Bob Lucas Stadium, is preparing his side to face Hayes & Yeading United at home in what is an earlier kick-off of 2pm on Saturday.
The first two scheduled meetings between the sides at Weymouth this season have been postponed due to fog, but Matthews made it perfectly clear that, at the third time of asking, he is looking for his players to put on a show.
He told Echosport: “Our home form hasn’t been good enough and Hayes have got a hell of a lot to play for, so I am expecting it to be fast and furious.
“It would be nice to go out and play without fear. It doesn’t look like we are going either up or down but I don’t want the season to peter out.
“I urge them (the players) to go out and show, not only me, but the supporters that they want to be here.
“A lot of the supporters pay good money to watch and we need to put on a good show and have a good end to the season to give us momentum going into next season.”
Chris Shephard will continue to miss out for the Terras this weekend and Jordan Copp is to be monitored after picking up a back injury.
Matthews is hoping Jake Wannell will be back in the squad following a calf problem.
Following the first-team clash this weekend, Weymouth Reserves will take on Folland Sports at the Bob Lucas Stadium in Sydenhams Wessex One on Saturday (5.30pm) and the first-team boss is expected to take a look at Bradley Asagba’s squad in action.
He added: “I will take a look and see what they can do.
“I think Brad’s done a very good job and we have been able to use the reserve team players a lot more this year, which shows he must be doing something right.”
