WHILE Jordan Copp admits the Terras’ league campaign has been “massively disappointing” this season, he stressed the need for “personal pride” within the squad going forward.
The former Plymouth youngster, who starred with a goal and an assist in Weymouth’s 2-0 win over Wimborne Town in the Dorset Senior Cup on Tuesday, also insisted there is still a desire within the side to win games “no matter what”.
Copp is expected to be in the Terras’ squad when they host Kettering Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
Weymouth are cemented in mid-table, occupying 12th spot in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division at present – 22 points off the play-off places.
Asked how hard it is to keep motivated with not much left to play for, Copp replied: “I am not going to sit here and lie about it, it is difficult to try and keep yourself motivated, but it is down to you as a person to do that.
“We are not going out there and giving less than 100 per cent.”
He added: “You go out and do it for personal pride.
“We are still a group of players and coaching staff and it’s a game of football. We still want to win, no matter what.
“As players, a lot of us have been pros and it gets embedded in you. It’s a game of football and you need to win it.
“It’s about winning as many games as possible.
“It’s probably not going to happen, but if we can win every single game from now until the end of the season, that’s the target.”
Asked about the Terras’ campaign as a whole, Copp claimed: “It’s been a massively disappointing season.
“As much as it’s going to come back on us (the players) because we are the ones out there, it’s so frustrating and demoralising coming back in week after week drawing and losing games we should be winning.
“You don’t go into a game trying to draw or lose. We need to pick up as many points as we can.”
