PAUL Maitland revealed the Terras are set to welcome a number of trialists with the view of looking to secure a deal with the club in pre-season.
The Weymouth assistant-manager, who confirmed a number of the current squad have already undergone fitness tests following their summer schedules, may welcome as many as eight trialists across their training sessions throughout the upcoming week.
Three un-named players were alongside the current squad at their initial pre-season testing on Wednesday, with more set to feature in the first full session with Weymouth at Blandford School tonight.
Maitland told Echosport: “We had 16 in (for the testing), with three trialists, who were specifically invited in for that session.
“We are expecting some more trialists in (tonight), so that number will be up.”
He added: “We will have eight trialists as well as the squad we have got signed up.
“All being well, there may also be a couple more faces in the early part of next week as well.”
Asked to explain more about the testing phase, Maitland said: “It is a far cry from running round Redlands or road running for hours on end!
“There is a lot more science to it, with results taken. The second set of results will dictate a personal plan they will be getting.”
