Director of Football Paul Maitland has welcomed tonight’s friendly match against the British Virgin Islands and sees it as a good opportunity to give needed game time to certain players.
Weymouth secured their place in the play-off last weekend with a 2-1 victory away to Redditch United and now have 4 league games remaining to jostle for position.
Speaking ahead of tonight’s game Maitland told theterras.com “We welcome the British Virgin Islands team to the Bob Lucas for what should be an interesting friendly.
“For us it’s is a perfect opportunity to experiment and give needed game time to players that need it.”
“It also an opportunity to see some of the young guns we have coming through and one or two of our duel registered players who have spent much of the season at other clubs.”
The British Virgin Islands, who are currently ranked 205th in the FIFA Rankings, have spent the past couple of days at their training camp at Milton Abbey.
Asked about how he saw tonight’s friendly match going, Maitland said, “The British Virgin Islands will undoubtedly be a stern test and we are very much looking forward to seeing how they do things and set up.
“All in all both teams will be looking to learn a lot about themselves collectively and individually.
“It is nice to have a game with no pressure or expectancy.”
Tonight’s game, which kicks off at 7:30pm at the Bob Lucas Stadium, is priced at £5 for adults, £3 for concessions, and free for under 16s.
