WEYMOUTH’S Tiago Sa is looking to cement a place in the first team ahead of the new season.
The defender is happy with how he progressed last year and became involved with the Terras’ first team.
Sa said: “I progressed in my first season here at Weymouth and it was nice to get involved with the first team and now I have just got to cement a place in the first team.”
Sa was speaking following the first training session of pre-season, held at Blandford School on Saturday, which saw Weymouth get back to fitness drills as well as exercises on the ball.
Sa said: “It feels good to be back and get in and among the footballs.
“I am just trying to kick on from last season.
“It has been tough but it is good to be back in and among the boys and I am ready to kick on really.”
Paul Maitland, the Terras’ director of football, confirmed on Thursday that the defender has extended his stay with the Terras for a further year.
Sa said: “I am pleased to have signed for another year.
“The set-up here is really good plus it helps that the boys are a nice bunch of lads.
“I reckon we could do something this season.”
Sa was happy with how much on-the-ball training there was on the first day, feeling like it better replicated real life matches.
Sa said: “I increase my fitness by playing little games like that with high intensity and it is more like real life matches so it gets your body adjusted for when the season starts.”
The Terras had a testing session last Tuesday and Sa was pleased with the results.
Sa said: “I thought fitness-wise I was alright, that is what pre-season is about to get fitness up and just to get your body prepared for when the season starts.”
Meanwhile, Weymouth have their first pre-season friendly on Saturday, at the Bob Lucas Stadium, as they kick-off against Bournemouth Under-23s (1pm).
