WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley says his side are ‘itching to get going’ ahead of their Evo-Stik Southern Premier South season start at Harrow Borough tomorrow (3pm).
The Terras will be looking for an opening day win at the Earlsmead Stadium to begin to attempt to follow up a superb fifth-place finish and 97 points that they achieved last year in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.
Molesley said: “I think everyone is excited and pleased to see the start of the season upon us.
“We have all worked hard over the summer and we are ready for the real stuff to start now.
“So we are itching to get going and fully looking forward to it.”
The league restructuring means new teams have entered the league such as the Boro and the number of teams in the league has been reduced to 22.
Weymouth have had a tough pre-season results-wise, with just one win coming in the form of a 3-1 win at home against Kingstonian.
Molesley acknowledged this, as he said: “I think pre-season has been far from perfect performance-wise which is good because you want to be highlighting any areas for improvement and I feel that we have done that.
Molesley added: “But we have also seen some very good signs in there as well, the boys have worked hard and it is a chance to see all of that hard work come to fruition.”
Jordan Ngalo and Josh Wakefield will miss the match at the Boro with injuries but Molesley says the duo are both on the road to recovery and hopes it will not be too much longer.
Molesley said: “At the moment everyone is ready apart from them two.
“Pre-season is always a tricky time and players are just looking to get through it unscathed so they are fit and ready for the start of the season.
Molesley is happy with the work he has seen from his side throughout pre-season, highlighting the good foundations that they have put in.
Molesley said: “We feel that we have put some good foundations in in pre-season and we feel that we are ready to kick on now.
Last season Harrow finished 12th in the Bostik Premier Division and joined the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South with the league restructuring alongside the Metropolitan Police, Hendon and Staines Town.
The Boro announced two new signings on Monday, with Ryan Haugh and Frank Keita joining from Chalfont St Peter and Borehamwood respectively.
Meanwhile, Weymouth’s pitch team Paul Vallintine and Kevin Banks were named as Southern League Groundsmen of the Year yesterday at St George’s Park. The duo received a cheque for £12,500 for their work throughout the 2017/18 season which saw the Terras finish fifth in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division while losing just three league matches at home all season.
