Weymouth hit five past sorry Chesham United
CHESHAM UNITED 0
WEYMOUTH 5
Goodship pen 41, 73, 80, Thomson 54, Zubar 90+1
WEYMOUTH delivered a superb away performance to dismiss bottom side Chesham United 5-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.
Brandon Goodship scored his second treble in four games, while Ben Thomson and Stephane Zubar also netted in a win that puts the Terras on 10 points from a possible 12.
Weymouth manager Mark Molesley made two changes to the Terras’ starting XI, with Abdulai Baggie and Charlie Davis dropping to the bench.
The duo was replaced by Antonio Diaz and Josh Wakefield, who scored an 88th-minute equaliser against Beaconsfield Town.
Warren Bentley was only new addition to the Terras’ matchday squad after last week’s draw.
Bottom side Chesham were busy this week, with manager Jon Meakes signing no fewer than three players.
One of whom, Bradley Clayton, started while Devonte Totesaut, a former Enfield Town man, and ex-Anderlecht defender Richard Platt also joined the Generals.
Chesham’s positive midweek spilled into the beginning of the game as they began the brighter side.
Yet it was Weymouth who fashioned the first major chance of the game, Ben Thomson running in behind after a defensive mix-up to crash a shot against Alex Tokarczyk’s post.
The Generals continued to enjoy the better of play and forced Jordan Seabright into a smart save before Weymouth took over.
Antonio Diaz was heavily involved throughout the first half and his mazy run past three Chesham defenders freed space for Goodship, who struck over from range.
Diaz then mirrored Goodship in blazing over from a Josh McQuoid pass, before Goodship was superbly denied from 25 yards by a sprawling Tokarczyk.
Weymouth were completely in the ascendancy and seconds after a near handball in their own area, a ball through found Goodship, who was felled by the Chesham defence inside the box for a penalty that the dangerous marksman duly scored on 41 minutes.
But the Terras had a scare before the break when Seabright was again called into action to deny Chesham a leveller.
After the resumption, it took just nine minutes for Weymouth to get their second goal of the day.
Another surging run from the bustling forward this time produced the goods and he was able to turn in the box and fire inside Tokarczyk’s near post to double the Terras’ advantage.
In a battling performance, Weymouth’s captain Jake McCarthy once more gave an indication of his leadership skills when making a brilliant lunging stop to block a shot on Seabright’s goal.
Chesham never gave up and saw Adam Martin head over a good chance midway through the half, missing out on the opportunity to halve the deficit.
Moments after club captain Ashley Wells was yellow carded for a foul, Goodship notched his second.
Josh Carmichael was instrumental, sending through a scything pass for the Terras’ striker to round Tokarczyk and put the game to bed.
Manager Mark Molesley then made two changes, bringing on Baggie and Bentley for McQuoid and Thomson with 15 minutes remaining.
And it took just a minute for Bentley to get in on the action, chipping wide of the uprights as Weymouth missed out on a fourth.
However, Chesham nearly bagged a goal of their own, only to come up against another sizzling Seabright save to preserve his clean sheet.
Seconds later, Wells made a last-ditch goalline clearance before Seabright again came to the rescue, pawing out the rebound as the Terras somehow kept their powder dry in a manic spell.
Having come out of that severe test of their defences without conceding, the away side deservedly extended their lead when Goodship claimed in second hat-trick in four games, tucking past Tokarczyk with ease 10 minutes from time.
Weymouth completed the scoring when McCarthy picked up the ball at the back post and fizzed a cross along the penalty area to Stephane Zubar, who did not miss from all of a yard out.
Zubar’s goal capped a fine away day performance from Weymouth ahead of the derby with Dorchester on Monday.
