Weymouth take on Banbury United in the First Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup in what promises to be a good cup tie between two teams that have made a great start to the season.
The Terras sit at the top of the Southern Premier League South after a start to the season that has included two 5-0 wins and only one defeat. The Puritans are 5th in the Southern Premier League Central after being laterally moved into the division during the close season. The two clubs have had some memorable battles over the years and this promises to be another.
Terras Captain Jake McCarthy told theterras.com that a long run in the competition is something the players are looking at, “Obviously if we were lucky enough to go far then a dream tie would be against any top Premier League side. There is a long way to go until that though, first up the full focus is on Saturday against Banbury.”
Last season, the Terras got themselves to the third qualifying round, before eventually losing to Chelmsford City. The Terras lost for the first time this season last weekend at Farnborough and McCarthy is eager to put things right and says that the FA Cup provides a perfect opportunity to do that.
“It has been a great start to the season, anyone would of taken being top at this point at the start,” said McCarthy, “The FA Cup gives the squad a chance to focus away from the league for the weekend and it’s time to make things right after Saturdays disappointing result.
“As a squad, we would love a good cup run and I’m sure the fans would too!”
