The greatest cup competition in the world returns. Weymouth enter the FA Cup at the Second Qualifying Round stage and will make the short trip to Hampshire to take on Sholing at the Mackoy Stadium on Saturday.
Like The Terras, Sholing enjoyed success and won their league last season and gained promotion to the Southern League Division 1 South. With a big away support expected to follow Mark Molesley’s team and with it being a big day for our hosts, expect a good crowd and plenty of interest in this tie.
The Terras break from the National League South for a week and come into the Cup having made huge strides in their first season back in step 2 of non-league football. Most recently, Weymouth walloped St Albans 4-1 away from home, this result left Weymouth sitting pretty and in 5th place in the league table, a start Terras fans will have dreamed of but a start that might not surprise everyone due to the genuine quality within the squad.
Sholing won the Wessex Premier Division last season and have had to win two rounds to get to this stage of the competition, beating Tadley Calleva, Hamble Club and Bradford Town in the previous rounds. The Boatmen have played six games in the Southern League Division 1 South, sitting in mid table, winning 2 games and losing 4 games. So it has been a mixed start in the league but a good run in the Cup competitions so far this season for our hosts.
Thoughts from the gaffer, Mark Molesley
“I’m sure the boys will show the same work ethic and attitude as they did against St Albans. We’ve got more than enough to get the job done.”
