Match Preview

Weymouth take on Hastings United of the Isthmian League South East at the Bob Lucas Stadium in the final qualifying round of the Buildbase FA Trophy.

There is a two league gap between the two teams tomorrow but do not let that fool you, Weymouth will need to be on their game to get through this tie. Hastings sit second in their league and are yet to taste a league defeat in eleven games. Their home record is far superior to their away record. At home they have a 100% record, away from home, they have picked up one win and drawn on four occasions. This tie could be considered as similar to the Sholing game in the FA Cup, on that day The Terras were solid and got the job done, make no mistake about it, Mark Molesley’s men will need to show the same qualities tomorrow.

Hastings needed a replay to get to this stage, beating fellow Isthmian League South East side Whitehawk 3-1 at the second time of asking. They beat AFC Dunstable 4-0 in the First Qualifying Round. Cray Valley are the only team above them in their league table as we come towards the end of November.

For the Terras, it’s ten unbeaten in the National League South after a draw in Essex on Tuesday evening. Weymouth sit fourth in the table and now only six points behind leaders Wealdstone. After promotion, it’s a later entry into the Trophy this season with a First Round tie up for grabs for the winner as well as £3,750 in prize money (losers receive £1,250).

Thoughts from the Manager

“We’re expecting a tough game, they’re another good footballing side, a bit like Billericay. They’ve got some really good attacking outlets, a lot of pace out wide. We’re definitely putting our best foot forward to try and progress in the competition. It’s one we want to do well in.”
