Match Preview: FC Halifax Town (A) – Saturday 9th October 2021 – 15:00

By Ted Slocombe

Weymouth hit the road once again as we travel north to face FC Halifax Town at The Shay on Saturday looking for a much needed three points.

THE TERRAS

A tough spell for The Terras continued on Tuesday when we were defeated by Bromley by 3 goals to nil. Brian Stock will be looking for more positive attacking football, over the course of 90 minutes, that were demonstrated in the opening ten minutes of that game before the “sucker punch” goal by Bromley as it was described by the gaffer. Weymouth will be hoping that they can turn some of the recent performances around to give them maximum confidence heading into the big FA Cup tie with Yeovil next weekend, and a good performance at Halifax could be the ticket.

Weymouth currently sit 20th in the National League with 8 points from 10 games.

Player To Watch: Bradley Ash

Brad Ash is without a goal in four games which will be added determination for him to be the man to help The Terras come away with three points. His link-up play with Brandon Goodship against Bromley brought about several good chances for The Terras and there is optimism that the forward can continue to create chances and score this weekend to up his tally.

THE SHAYMEN

A strong start to the season for FC Halifax Town as they have picked up six wins, two draws and two defeats from their opening ten games and are currently on a six-game unbeaten run in the league. Notable victories include Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Notts County courtesy of a Matty Warburton 100th minute winner for the Shaymen. Halifax also came out 3-0 winners over Stockport last month. Halifax will be eager to extend this unbeaten run when they face the Terras this weekend, with Brian Stock’s side looking to snatch three points from the Shaymen on Saturday.

FC Halifax Town currently sit third in the National League with 20 points from their opening 10 games.

Player To Watch: Billy Waters

Eight goals in ten games for Billy Waters demonstrates his prolific and dangerous form as of late. The 26-year-old will prove to be a challenge for the Terras backline, as they look to reduce the number of chances on goal to improve their defensive record.

Halifax came out victorious in both fixtures last season. Halifax came out 5-1 winners in December 2020 at the Bob Lucas Stadium with Josh McQuoid the only scorer for the Terras that day. In the reverse fixture at The Shay in April 2021, Halifax won by 3 goals to 2 with Jake McCarthy scoring twice for The Terras.
