The Terras were held to a goalless draw in a heated derby game against Yeovil Town under the sun at the Bob Lucas Stadium
Weymouth put the ball in the back of the net in the 8th minute. Bradley Ash played a low driven pass into the front post which was tapped home by Ben Thomson, only to be ruled out for offside for a mistimed run by Ash.
Just 5 minutes later, the Terras thought they’d scored again. A great passing move saw Josh McQuoid whip the ball dangerously into the area. Thomson flicked the ball behind him with a header to tee up Tom Bearwish who headed it home. However, the linesman again flagged for offside, this time Bearwish the culprit.
In the 27th minute, the Terras knocked again, this time on the far side. Ben Greenwood steamed down the left before putting in a delivery to Thomson. The striker looked to have been fouled in the area but play was waved on and Yeovil managed to clear their lines again.
The Glovers were visibly frustrated at not being able to play their brand of football, and in the 36th minute, Lawson D’ath was lucky to escape a red card after a studs high tackle on Bearwish. Daniel Lamport instead brandished a yellow to Lawson D’ath.
Yeovil started the second half in a completely different manner, attacking Ross Fitzsimons goal in the opening 13 seconds. The ball was given to Tom Knowles on the near side who drove into the area before shooting across the face of goal, with the keeper getting down well to his right to make the save.
Weymouth were still providing a strong outlook in attack, but couldn’t break the deadlock. Their next chance came in the 52nd minute. A long, seemingly lost ball was well won by Bradley Ash under the man marking him, paving the way for Bearwish to come and take on a strike first time. The ball rocketed to the near post and was palmed away well by the keeper.
Ben Thomson was at the centre of everything good for Weymouth, chasing down every lost cause, which looked certain to pay off in the 58th minute. The striker won possession and charged up the left side of the pitch before sliding in a pass to Ash who made up ground to meet the attack. However, Grant Smith came off his line well to deny the chance.
The Glovers were next to form an attack in the 65th minute. A searching ball from Charlie Wakefield was sent into the area, however no Yeovil players were in the middle of the box to make contact, with Nathan Carlyle clearing the ball away.
Terras fans thought they’d broken the scoring again before the 70th minute. A cross from the far side deflected its way into Thomson, who stood up to set up Bearwish but the shot was parried away.
The chance was not dead though as the ball came out to Ben Morgan who pinged a searching ball to the back post where Aaron Drewe was free. The QPR loanee took on a shot with his right boot on the volley, but the ball went over the bar.
With 15 minutes to go, it was still anyone’s game, with the Glovers making the next attack. Reuban Reid had broken free on the right side for the first time all game and crossed the ball into Barnett at the back post. The left back had a free header, but headed the ball downwards, with the ball somehow going over the crossbar.
Yeovil were on the attack again soon after, this time on the far side. Ben Barclay played a ball into the area which was punched high by Fitzsimons. Whilst the ball was in the air, Reid went over claiming a penalty however play continued as Barclay flashed at a shot first time, and, although just yards from goal, the ball went high and wide of target.
Both sides had given it their all through the game, and yet again Weymouth were finding their second wind on the counter attack from a corner. A long clearance up to Bearwish was played to Mampala who ran the length of the half. The substitute got to the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a strike, but the effort was wide.
Deep into added time, Yeovil had the chance to clench victory. Adi Yussuf played a cross from the right which was flicked behind the goal and away by Greenwood. If the defender didn’t get a touch then Blu Lo-Everton would have hit it in.
Then in added time of added time, the Glovers were awarded a set piece in a dangerous position, however Luke Wilkinson took the shot which smacked against the wall, bringing an end to the game.
