Weymouth fell to a 2-0 defeat to Oxford City at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday.
The Terras started the brighter of the sides, and had a great chance to open the scoring in the 3rd minute. Claudio Ofosu steamed down the left side into the area and pinged a ball to the back post, over the head of Ben Dudzinski in goal. Tom Blair made connection with the ball on the volley, but Canice Carroll was there to clear the ball off the line and away.
Despite their bright start, Weymouth went a goal down in the 7th minute. Lewis Coyle had bags of space just outside the area and curled in an effort from range with his left boot, beyond the outstretched gloves of Billy Terrell.
Bradley Ash looked to try and bring the game to Weymouth, but when the striker got into the area, his shot was straight at the keeper.
Cam Murray worked the ball well on the far side of the pitch in the 15th minute and managed to get into enough space to square the ball to Blair, who was free. The forward took on the shot, but the effort was scuffed and gave Oxford City the opportunity to clear.
Oxford City had a good opportunity from a set piece to go 2 ahead. Josh Ashby’s free kick was curled into the area, with Charlie Rowan rising highest to meet it. The Centre-Back, who took a nasty fall in a collision moments earlier, could only head the ball wide of the goal.
City were getting more confident, and were building up attacks with pace, terrorising the Terras. Zac MacEachran flicked it behind to Klaidi Lolos who took on a curling shot with his right from outside the area. The ball curled around the outside of the far post for a goal kick.
The Terras were searching for an equaliser in the 41st minute when Kyprianou charged down the left flank and played it forward to Ofosu. The winger cut the ball onto his right foot, but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper.
Weymouth were pressing for a goal and came close on the break of half time. Ofosu dinked in a ball from the right which was teed up nicely for Bearwish who chested down the chance and struck the ball on the volley. Ben Dudzinski was quick to parry the ball away to the left and out for a corner.
Terras fans and players alike were baying for a penalty at the start of the second half when Blair went down following a challenge from Lewis Miccio. The referee waved play on
Oxford were awarded a penalty in the 77th minute after Harry Kyprianou brought down Klaidi Lolos with a late challenge in the area. Lolos stepped up and dispatched the spot kick, sending Terrell the wrong way.
Weymouth were awarded a penalty of their own in the 85th minute. O’Connell was scythed down in the area. The fouled player stepped up to take the penalty, but Dudzinski did well to read the player palming the ball away, but only as far as O’Connell who couldn’t tuck away the rebound.
