Match Preview: Worthing v Weymouth – Tuesday 13th December – 19:45

The Terras are off to West Sussex tonight for the second time in less than a month, this time in National League South action!

The gaffer spoke to us ahead of tonight’s game:

Preparations: “We’ve worked hard last couple days, we’ve recovered well to give ourselves the best possible prep for the game. I’m proud of the whole group at the moment, we’re all doing everything we can to be better every game.”

On the approach going into the game: “We’re not labelling it as seeking revenge, it’s another game. We go there and we pick up points if we can, we’re up against one of the best teams we played this year, so it’s another tough challenge in tricky conditions. But it’s something we’re relishing, we go there with no fear but it will be difficult.”

What will do differently: “Well the biggest thing is not to concede four goals in the manner we did! But we’re a better organised side now, but will still be hard especially on a Tuesday night, let’s see how we do.”

Team news: “Tom Blair is 50/50 with an ankle, had a knock first half on Saturday. Luke Nippard is still out with his back issue. Gutted again for him to miss the game, he brings a good energy on the pitch so that one’s hard to take.”

On keeping the momentum going: “Win, lose or draw, this doesn’t change what we’re building. We’re taking it one game at a time, but we’re enjoying the momentum, we’ll look to carry it on in each game where we can.”

@TerraStatman’s Facts of the Match

Before the start of this season we had never played Worthing before, but we have certainly made up for that now as this is our 3rd meeting in just five months. In August, the Woodside-Road-based-outfit visited the Bob Lucas and returned home with all three points in a 3-0 victory. Last month we only fared slightly better in Sussex, as our hosts dumped us out of the FA Trophy in a 4-2 loss. This was despite Keelan O’Connell opening the scoring in the 10th minute for the Terras. On that day, Ollie Pearce enjoyed a brace of goals, a repetition of his feat the first time we played them at the start of the season!
There are no known ex-Terras in the current visiting squad but a handful from years gone by including Lee Charles, Steve Cook, Steve Claridge, Jefferson Louis(of course), Matthew May & Paul Odey.
We travel east protecting a rich vein of form having bagged 10 points from the last 5 games and sit proudly 2nd in the form table. We have also scored on each of our last 5 away trips. However, Worthing have also been performing well of late, with three wins over the same period, so this will prove to be an interesting test for two teams on the up!
