Duncan Gardner shares his latest edition of Facts of the Match ahead of this afternoon’s trip to Cheshunt.
The amber hazard warning lights may be flashing on our National League South campaign, but we are hoping that it will be the Ambers of Cheshunt that break down this weekend.
In terms of the history of games against this Hertfordshire side, we have barely left the starting grid with just the one solitary game in the corresponding league fixture at the Bob Lucas. That was matchday 18 for the Terras this season on the 3rd of December, but the “relegation six-pointer” ended up being a “two-pointer” as a 0-0 stalemate ensued.
Since that day, our hosts have completed another 19 laps of the National League South circuit, recording 24 points. Meanwhile we have out lapped Cheshunt in that time playing one more game but secured one less point in the process. Both teams remain in the pits and, well, off the podium places in 21st (Cheshunt) and 23rd (Weymouth). However a win today for the Terras would be the proverbial press of the DRS button that would see us pass the Ambers and maybe signal turning a corner before the home straight of this campaign.
In terms of players – I can only find one player who featured in the cockpit for both teams – Sean Adamson, who was briefly an Amber in 2001 and even more briefly played for the Terras in 2003. Sean is the third name alphabetically in the list of all players to ever play for Weymouth so it’s ironic that the player in third last, Edgar Zanin celebrates his birthday on this matchday!
