He added to that by finishing as the team’s top scorer in 1966 & 1967. Alex retired from playing in 1970. He had made 267 appearances for Weymouth and scored 67 goals. Alongside his playing career Alex also served the Club in other ways. He worked as Promotions Manager in the pools department until 1975. His wife, Monica started and ran the first club shop.

Alan Beer

Centre-Forward, Alan, joined Weymouth from Swansea City in 1972 and became an immediate success at the Recreation Ground. He won the Supporter’s Player of the year award in his first season and finished as leading goal scorer in 1972/73 & 1973/74. During his time at Weymouth, he was selected to play for the Welsh Under 21 side. Alan’s talent meant that he was destined to play at a higher level and in 1974 he was sold to Exeter City for £5500. Sadly, his playing days were ended by a knee injury, in 1978, just as he was on the brink of a transfer to Leicester City and winning a full international cap with Wales. During his time at Weymouth Alan made 137 appearances and scored 82 goals.

Manager, Graham Carr, signed Steve from Southend United in 1977. The defender established himself as a stalwart in the Weymouth team and he topped the club’s appearance lists in 1977/78 & 1978/79. In 1979/80 he won the Supporter’s Home Player of the Season award. These achievements stand out, given that Steve played in a Weymouth team alongside other great names from the Club’s archives such as Lawrence, Iannone, Arnold, Courtney McCafferty & Dove. Steve Dyer

He was awarded the Captaincy and consecutively topped the club appearance list in 1988/89, 1989/90/ 1991/92 and again in 1992/93. Steve’s time at Weymouth FC ended when he left the club in 1993. Simon Etherington

For over 20 years, Simon has been one of Weymouth FC’s unsung heroes. Supporting the football team on the pitch has always been his first love, but on several infamous occasions Simon has willingly stepped up to provide critical financial help and guidance, without which it is fair to say the Club may not be here today. Formally Simon has been a Sponsor, Finance Director, and Vice-Chairman. Informally he has, at some point, turned his hand to almost every volunteer role at the club. In September 2024 the Board of Directors acknowledged Simon’s commitment by giving him the honorary position of Lifetime Vice-President. Simon has never run out on the pitch to score a Terras’ match winner, but without him the goalposts may not have been standing.
