Ahead of today’s clash versus Hornchurch, we sat down with Warren Feeney, who laid out our work behind-the-scenes, the importance of staying level-headed, and more…
On Tuesday’s result in Truro:
It was a fantastic point – unfortunately I couldn’t be there as I was very ill and didn’t want to pass on my sickness!
We’ve carried on from last weekend’s massive win, which gives us a bit of confidence. We want to take as many positives as we can. But, we know that our improvement in form will only matter if we get another win tomorrow.
On staying level-headed:
One thing I always say is: don’t get too high or too low – always stay in the middle.
There’s still a lot of football to be played and it can always turn. We just need to pick up as many points as possible along the way.
On Malachi Linton’s recent form:
Mal is a great player and he’s proven at this level. All strikers go through what he’s gone through – no one is more pleased for him than me and the coaching staff. Before Saturday’s game, I pulled him aside and said: you’re a striker and you will score. That’s exactly what happened and I was so happy for him that it did. Hopefully this is the start of a good run for him.
On Brandon Goodship:
He’s a good player and an experienced player. I like that he gets frustrated – it shows that he cares. He’s been brilliant since I’ve come in and everyone can see the quality that he adds to the team. Looking at his goal versus Aveley last week for example, I didn’t realise how early he’d struck the ball!
On Lloyd Green:
I went down to see him yesterday. He’s been treated like a king, his coffee and lunch all made for him!
His spirits are up and he’s desperate to get back to the club. He’s already discussing plans for next season!
He’s a massive part of the club – four years he hadn’t missed a game. It will be great to see him back.
On our work behind-the-scenes this week:
Our main focus has been dusting down and recovering. At this point of the season it’s vital that the players remain fit. We’ll assess the injuries we have – we’re hoping to get a couple extra players ready for tomorrow.
On tomorrow’s game:
I don’t want the boys to feel pressure tomorrow. I’ve told them to go and enjoy themselves, because we’re now off the bottom of the table which, psychologically, is huge for us.
We want as many fans at the ground as possible for the final push, because anything can happen. There’s still a lot of football to be played, and we need all the support we can get to give our players an extra boost.
On Hornchurch:
They’re a good side led by an experienced Daryl McMahon, a good guy who has managed around these levels for a long time. We know it will be a tough game, but it’s one that we’re all confident about. But, at the end of the day all we can do is worry about ourselves.
