Ahead of tonight’s massive clash at home to Weston-super-Mare, Warren Feeney told us about the team’s reaction to last weekend’s result, the qualities of our young players, and more…
On our performance last weekend:
I was actually a bit disappointed. I thought we had dominated the game, and we switched off for their corner which led to us conceding a goal. But, I can’t knock the way we fought back and got ourselves an equaliser right at the death.
On the team’s mood after the game:
They were disappointed to concede but happy to get a point. We’re all staying level-headed, which we are after every game. The most important thing is that we’re four unbeaten, which means we still have a chance going into tonight to try and stay in this league.
On Kelson Pollard:
He’s a fantastic player – full credit to the under-23s for his development. He used his body really well to win us a foul inside the box, and it was a great ball from Dani Gonzalez towards him, too. I’ve always wanted to get the young players involved, but it was just about doing it at the right time.
On our promising young players:
I especially like that there’s no fear in them when they play. I don’t want to put too much pressure on them right now – I’d rather they just enjoyed their football. Hopefully, they can add a bit of quality to our squad.
On the squad’s situation:
You can see where we are at the moment. We’re down to our bare bones which is shown with having four teenagers on the bench. We don’t have any extra numbers right now, so full credit to the players who are in the team. We’re not giving up – we’re still going.
On the main priority before tonight’s game:
The players’ fitness has been our main priority. Training mid-week is hard enough as it is, so we’ve had to wrap them in cotton wool to make sure we don’t get any more injuries. They need to be recovered and ready for tonight.
On tonight’s match:
It will be a tough game against a really good side. They have a brilliant group of players, particularly Reuben Reid who’s a fantastic centre-forward. But, as I say every week, we just have to worry about ourselves, and what we need is the right attitude.
On treating every match like a cup final:
We will have to do that every game for the rest of the season. We’ll have to make sure we’re on it, and take things one game at a time. We must be ready for tonight’s battle.
