Ahead of tomorrow’s game at home to Boreham Wood, we sat down with Warren Feeney, who laid out how players should respond to setbacks, the way to approach realistic goals in football, and more…
On our current situation:
It was a defeat and we know where we are, but I don’t want to be too critical towards the players – our loss came after a four-game unbeaten run. We’re fighting, and it doesn’t help that the squad is down to its bare bones. Full credit to the lads.
On the togetherness of those at the club:
That’s what makes a football club. We want to build a community that is together. Sometimes in football you have to press the reset button and start again, but I’ve enjoyed my team here and we’ll keep going until the very end. That’s what the fans want to see.
On our injury situations:
Unfortunately none of our injuries are short-term; they’re all long-term. Everyone’s training situation is different, but I would have liked to have been with the boys from pre-season. But, we just have to accept the cards that we’ve been dealt, and hopefully we can start to get players back in the next few weeks.
On what the players can learn from setbacks:
Every day in life is a setback. Playing football is the best job in the world and we should enjoy it and work hard. Football is all about setbacks; the most important thing is how you respond, and we have the chance to respond in the right way tomorrow.
On realistic expectations:
All we can do is play the rest of the season and worry about what’s next afterwards. My mind isn’t on the summer yet; it’s on tomorrow’s game. We’ll just get our heads down and get on with things.
On Will Buse:
He’s a good guy, like everyone else at the club. He’s a joy to work with and does what I ask of him. There’s not much more I can ask for. All of the players have been competitive.
On tomorrow’s opponents:
Boreham Wood are one of the big hitters in the league and they handle pressure very well. We have a lot of respect for them, but, as I keep saying, we can only worry about ourselves and we just have to make sure we give our best.
On putting on a good performance for the fans:
We try to do that every game – the results are usually down to quality. But, the fans have been brilliant and I’ve told the boys to go out and put on a show for them. We will certainly be looking to do that tomorrow.
