Ahead of our final match this season, we spoke to Warren Feeney, who told us about how he’s “loved” being at the club, his plans for next season that are “already in-place,” and more…
On Monday’s loss to Torquay United:
We knew it was going to be a tough game, as we had so many players out. Monday was just about getting through the game – I thought the boys equipped themselves very well. You could see what they were trying to do. As for the injuries, the same players are still absent today, so we’re still down to our bare bones.
On his feelings with the season being over:
Look, I would’ve loved to have been here earlier – I feel we would’ve given the season a good go until the very end. You can see how well our home form has started to pick up. With football, you never want to rest. You may say that you want a break, but when the break comes you want to get going again straight away. We know where we are, so we just have to think forward and progress.
On getting back to the drawing board as soon as possible:
As a manager, you need to. You need to see what positions need strengthening and get things sorted quickly, which is what we’ll be doing.
On the importance of building a squad for next season:
We’ll be looking to get players in, but we’ll also be hoping to keep the players that we think are progressing. This is something we’re already starting to do, but this will be a rebuilding process that needs to happen. Like every manager, I have my own methods that I will be implementing for pre-season.
One whether he has enjoyed his time at Weymouth so far:
I’ve loved every single minute. There’s good people at the club, there’s a great fanbase here and there’s good people behind the scenes. I want to progress the club and get it back to where it should be.
On putting on a good performance for the final game of the season:
This is, of course, something we want to do. We know it will be a tough game – we have a lot of injuries – but we’re desperate to end the season on a high note for the fans. It’s been a really tough season for them, but they’ve been brilliant since I’ve come in, and they just want to see a team that is competing and they’ll back that team all the way.
On establishing a winning culture as soon as possible:
Doing that is very important, which is why I’m looking forward to pre-season and implementing that early. Some stuff is already in-place for next season, and we’ll get working as soon as today’s game is over. You have to look forward, not back at what has already been done, and we’re certainly looking forward to seeing how we can progress on and off the pitch.
