I do love writing match previews but when it’s against a club we have never played before that does provide a bit of a challenge to make up the word count!
However we have played plenty of teams from Surrey before, the county where The Curfews reside, and our last visit to that shire was a happy one as we returned back down the M3 with all three points from a trip to Farnham a couple of months ago.
It’s also worth noting that results against all-comers from this county have rarely ended in draws in recent years – in fact just one in the last 19 meetings!
Back to Chertsey and our hosts this weekend have a form guide that looks like Christmas tree lights with a WLDW sequence in their last four games. They currently sit ten places and nine points better off than the Terras.
In terms of personnel, I’ve found two players who have played for both teams at various times. Firstly Scott Rees, a defensive midfielder who played a total of 24 times for the Terras from 2022-24 before latterly plying his trade for the Surrey outfit. Secondly Lee Charles who featured 18 times for Weymouth in the 2004/05 campaign. His first recorded senior club was Chertsey a decade before.
There is at least one ex-Terra with a birthday this matchday who older fans might remember – Ashley Coombes, a midfielder with 62 appearances for the team in the mid 1980s turns 76 this weekend.
Back to the matter at hand and Steve Claridge will no doubt be aiming for a first win in four and consecutive clean sheets would go a long way to achieving that – a feat the team have not managed in 20 months since April 2024!
At the other end of the pitch many eyes will be on current Terras top goalscorer Callum Watts to see if he can fire the Terras to victory. He boasts 5 goals in his last 9 in league & cup and is currently the only Weymouth man to bag a brace away from home this season against Chertsey’s county rivals Farnham.
Here’s hoping for another successful trip to Surrey and that the Terras curl a few in against the Curfews!
