In-form Terras chase the leaders

THERE’S a lot more confidence in the Weymouth team these days.
And at Cambridge on Saturday they gave another performance that suggested they could still make a bid for the Southern Premier League championship.
Derek Courtney grabbed two more opportunist goals to take his tally to six in three matches in six days.
And Saturday’s goals – the third came from Jeff Astle – brought a win that took Weymouth into sixth place in the table, three points behind leaders Wimbledon, whom they still have to play twice.
Courtney kept looking for chances on the tricky, snow-covered pitch.
Afterwards, he was full of praise for midfielder Bobby Brown.
“Bobby created all three of our goals with his initial passes. Each time he was spot on,” said Courtney.
Astle put Weymouth ahead in the 40th minute,beating goalkeeper Pat Murray with a well-taken header after a pass from Brown had sent Brian Lawrence racing down the right-wing.
Within a minute, Brown left the home defence in tatters with a long pass through the middle. Courtney ran 20 yards before beating Murray with a low shot.
Cambridge attempted to hit back in the second-half, and Howard Kettleborough, the home attack-leader managed to pull back a goal for them on the hour.
Then it took a fine save from David Fry to keep Weymouth ahead. Kettleborough sent in a great header, but Fry threw himself full-stretch to tip the ball around the post.
It was a mature save – the best I have seen Fry make since his first-team debut.
With ten minutes to go, Courtney glided into space to volley past Murray from a well-placed cross from Brown.
EXAMPLE
Player-manager Dietmar Bruck provided a great example from midfield.
Bruck, with a painful, inflamed left leg, following last Wednesday’s Floodlight Cup success at Bridgwater, fought for everything.
At the end he showed his pleasure by congratulating every player as they left the field.
