MARK Molesley emphasised that the Terras are looking to get the fitness into the boys and focus on the physical elements as they travel to Hamworthy United for their first pre-season friendly tonight (7.45pm).
Hamworthy are three tiers below Weymouth, in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division alongside Portland United, but are familiar faces to Weymouth, with the Terras having fought out a 2-2 draw in a pre-season friendly at the County Ground last season.
Molesley, when asked what he is hoping to see from his side, told Echosport: “At the moment it is just physical, we are looking to get them used to the ball, getting used to the game again, looking for the physical element out of it.
“Obviously to see the way we play, start putting our stamp on things but at the moment the trade off is more physical and getting the fitness into the boys but as pre-season starts to progress we are looking to lay down our stamp, our philosophy and see that come out.”
Molesley complimented the Hammers, saying that they will be able to provide a competitive game, something emphasised by the 2-2 draw last season, which saw the Terras rescue a late draw thanks to a fantastic strike from Liam Farrugia.
Molesley said: “They always give us a good game, they have got some good players. We want a competitive game straight away and they can provide that.
“The players will be 45 minutes each so it will be a game of two different teams hopefully each half. It is the first competitive game so we are looking forward to it.”
The Terras have had three sessions back now, with a solid session on Saturday at Blandford, and Molesley is pleased with what he has seen so far.
Molesley said: “The boys have worked really hard this week, it has been a good start, the boys have reported back in good shape and have shown a good attitude so we are looking forward to the game, I am sure the boys are.
“They have worked really hard this week so I think they are itching to get out onto the pitch now and get out of the heat of the training field and get onto the heat of the pitch now.
“It is exciting times for everyone around the club, going into a new league, we have made some new signings and it comes around quick. Back on the horse so to speak.”
