WEYMOUTH boss Mark Molesley insists the Terras will be vigilant against Sholing in their FA Cup second qualifying round clash at the Mackoy Stadium tomorrow (3pm).
Sholing blitzed the competition last term in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division, streaking clear to win the league by a massive 31 points, dropping just nine all season.
The Boatmen have made a solid start to life in the Southern League Division One South, claiming six points from six games, but beat Gosport 5-1 in the last round of the Southern League Cup.
As a result, Molesley is not underestimating the Hampshire outfit, who have recent cup pedigree having reached the FA Vase quarter-finals last season before losing to Northwich Victoria.
He told Echosport: “We are the higher-ranked club in the competition so we’ll have that pressure a little bit more.
“Sholing are a good side, they’re used to winning, have some good players and are a team we certainly don’t underestimate.
“They’re a confident team, some of their players could be playing higher but due to location and enjoying their time at Sholing they chose to stay.
“They’ve got obvious threats and they showed that last week by beating a strong Gosport side 5-1. We’re planning for a really tough game and we’re going to have to be at the top of our game.
“If we’re not, we don’t deserve to go through.”
Should Weymouth win, the Terras will pocket £6,750 but Molesley also has designs on a cup run.
He said: “We want to win every game of football we go into and go as far as we can in every competition.
“It’s a competition we take seriously, obviously for financial reasons. For any club in the FA Cup it’s big. We’ll be attacking the game just as we attack any game.”
Josh McQuoid (hamstring) has begun light training but Sam Sherring is awaiting another scan to discover the severity of his ankle knock.
