On Saturday, Weymouth take on St Albans City for the second time in four weeks, this time in the Emirates FA Cup Third Qualifying Round.
Over £11,000 in prize money and a place in the final qualifying round is up for grabs for the winner of this one. The prize money and the rewards that this competition brings with it are very lucrative for all non-league clubs, the fact that the Football Association have raised the prize money is an even bigger incentive for clubs to do well in what is already considered by many as the greatest cup competition in the world.
The Terras go into this game in terrific form. Unbeaten in 6 games, sitting pretty in fourth place in the league table and quite frankly flying along. You don’t have to go back too far to see when these sides last met of course. Just a few weeks ago (14th September) Weymouth went to Clarence Park in the Manarama National League South and hammered St Albans 4-1. The Saints then went on to beat Worthing after being forced to play a replay, they eventually ran out 3-1 winners. Their most recent result in the league was a 4-0 defeat away at Maidstone.
Weymouth are here after they comfortably dispatched Sholing in the last round, beating the Boatmen 3-0 at the Mackoy Stadium.
Thoughts from the gaffer, Mark Molesley
“It’s another exciting game and we’re full of confidence. At the same time, we’ve got our feet firmly on the floor because it’s going to be another difficult game.”
