Match Preview

Weymouth take on Braintree Town on Saturday, as 6th play 7th in the Manarama National League South at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

The Terras come into this game off the back of a heartbreaking defeat in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, after falling to a very undeserved 2-1 defeat against National League Dover Athletic. Of course, as these things tend to work, Dover went and got themselves a home tie with Southend United. There are so many reasons why that would have been a good draw for the Terras, not least that it’s been chosen as a TV game. Weymouth did win £24,000 in prize money though and need to move on and refocus the minds back to the league.

As we seem to say every week, there have been some brilliant battles with the opponents over the years and Braintree are the visitors tomorrow. The Iron sit one place and one point below The Terras going into the game. Braintree’s last League game ended in a crushing 5-1 defeat at Tonbridge, up until that result, they were in good form. Their most notable result of the season came at Leigh Park as they turned Havant & Waterlooville over 3-1.

Mark Molesley’s team are in terrific form in the league, unbeaten in six games. It’s easy to forget that this is Weymouth’s first season back at this level for nearly a decade but in all truth, it’s like they’ve never been away, especially when you stop to consider to results and league position. Both sides will be looking to further cement their positions inside the top 7 of the table, as we begin to move towards November.

Thoughts from the Manager

“We can’t wait to get back out onto the pitch. We want to take those frustrations out, we want to get back to winning ways as quick as we can.”
