WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley described the Terras’ 2-0 Dorset Senior Cup quarter-final victory over Poole Town as a “worthwhile exercise”.
Affectionately known as ‘El Jurassico’, the latest renewal of the rivalry between these two south coast sides was a little tamer than expected.
In a game light on chances, Brett Williams converted a 20th-minute penalty to put Weymouth into the lead, which was doubled an hour later by Pat Suraci.
Poole came closest to scoring soon after that chance when Ollie Dennett was denied by a fabulous save from Terras’ gloveman Tom Rees, who preserved his clean sheet as Weymouth strolled into the semi-finals.
Speaking to Echosport, Molesley was buoyed by the return to action of several Weymouth players.
He said: “It was a difficult game, they had a similar mix to us with first-team players and young players.
“It made for quite an open game with both teams trying to play football. It was a worthwhile exercise for us.
“It was nice to see Zubes (Stephane Zubar) back out there, he’s been nursing a groin injury and we’ve had to look after him. I need to get some minutes into his legs with all the games coming up.
“It was great to welcome Ade (Olumuyiwa) back from Blackfield and we got to run our eye over Pat Suraci, who had a good evening, and looked at a few young players as well.
“Obviously, Callum Buckley coming back from injury as well, who did the first 45 minutes.
“It was a good evening’s work for us and we got a lot out of it. The only disappointment is we picked up a little bit of a knock to Jordan Ngalo – a slight hamstring issue.”
*The draw for the semi-finals will take place on Wednesday.
