TERRAS boss Mark Molesley said Wednesday night’s league match against Havant & Waterlooville was more akin to a “blood and thunder cup tie.”
Weymouth suffered their first defeat since they hosted Havant on New Year’s Day, and Molesley said it was an entertaining clash.
He said: “I thought it was quite exciting for the neutral. It had everything, it was more like a blood and thunder cup tie for most of the game.”
Weymouth went behind early in the game but a goal of the season contender from Shaun Hobson levelled proceedings.
Josh McQuoid but the Terras ahead after tapping in the rebound from his saved penalty but Weymouth could not hold on and fell to a 3-2 defeat.
All three Havant goals were from balls into the box that the Weymouth defenders did not defend well enough, but Molesley does not see this as a weakness in his side.
“That’s been our undoing against them (Havant) this year,” he said. “They have defended and attacked balls in both boxes better than us.
“Ultimately that’s the most important thing, how you defend and attack in both boxes.
“I wouldn’t say it is a weakness of ours, our defensive record speaks for itself.
“I think we have defended our box really well recently and I would say we are one of the best sides in the league in that respect.
“Not too many teams get change out of balls into our box but they are a well-assembled side with a lot of experienced players.”
