WEYMOUTH manager Brian Stock insists the Christmas fixture schedule is “absolutely crazy” and believes players’ health is at risk.
Stock’s squad, already depleted by injury, will play for the third time in eight days when Eastleigh visit the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday (3pm).
The 4-3 loss to Torquay on Monday was also the Terras’ seventh game of a packed December and came just 48 hours after the 0-0 draw at Eastleigh on Boxing Day.
Speaking to Echosport, Stock expressed his preference for a 72-hour gap before the Torquay clash.
“I think it’s absolutely crazy,” he said.
“I don’t see the benefit of not having that game on the Tuesday and giving an extra day’s rest.
“If that was the case we probably would have had one more player back in our squad.
“Not only that, I’m putting a lot of players at risk.
“We don’t have the capability to bring players in, facility wise or put recovery days in.
“We are asking a lot of individuals, especially with so many players out.
“Going into the game I was worried if we were to have lost Jake McCarthy or Calvin (Brooks) what we would have had to have done.
“The contingency plan was for JD (Jack Dickson) to step into the middle (of defence) but he’s not trained much and he said at half-time he was struggling.
“God knows what would have happened if one of those would had to have come off.”
