Ahead of tomorrow’s clash away in Slough, we had a chat with our gaffer!
He spoke to us about being “ruthless,” Brandon Goodship’s injury progress, and more…
Here’s what he had to say on the following subjects:
On picking ourselves up:
We’re certainly in a precarious position, but we certainly can’t feel like victims. We haven’t been able to put our chances away, and some teams have scored wonderful goals against us. We have to do more, but I still maintain we’re on the right lines.
We’ve got to keep working hard and getting better. The only stat that matters is the scoreline, but we feel that it could look a lot different for us. We’ve just got to keep believing in ourselves and be more ruthless.
On how to be “ruthless:”
It’s about relaxing and not being so tense. We all want to score an important goal that will help us win. But, wins are like buses; once one comes, they all come. We are playing for moments, but these moments aren’t quite falling for us; we need to make them fall. Right now, we’re looking for someone to make a difference. It only takes a second to change a game.
On Brandon Goodship’s injury:
To say I had my heart in my mouth would have been an understatement. He’s been in full-rest this week, and we’re hoping it’s not as bad as first feared. If he continues to show the progress he has made in the past couple of days, his recovery should hopefully be weeks, rather than months. We look forward to seeing him back as soon as possible.
On Ben Greenwood:
He’s a great player with huge potential. It’s a shame he picked up “Man of the Match” at Borehamwood, before being forced off. Now he has a spell on the sidelines, but, as I’ve said, this is life and we need to find a way. We need to find a way to win whilst not being our strongest.
On our next steps:
Continuing to keep believing in ourselves and what we’re trying to do. We have great stats, the most key passes in the league, and these moments will come for us.
On “controlling the controllables:”
When you’re out on the pitch, you’re in control. You need to grab the bull by the horns and keep committing. Sometimes you’re less far away than you think you are.
On the support from our fans over the last two games:
Seeing them travel in their numbers to Borehamwood, before seeing them clap us after the Eastbourne game, was massive. They’re feeling that pain with us. We know that, and we know the fans are hurting. This is a tough time for us, and this is when I need the fans. It’s important that we remain positive.
We need to use these results as fuel to maintain the fight from within us. It’s important to keep that fight, wear the shirt with pride, and deliver for our fans.
On Slough Town:
Here comes a huge challenge!
Bottom versus top. Slough haven’t lost at home for almost a year. They’ve had the best start this season, so it’s a huge challenge. But, what better challenge than to come away with a result against the table-toppers.
