After a trio of games on the road, the Terras are finally coming home to roost for the first home friendly of the season against a Swindon Town XI! (KICK-OFF 2pm)
It’s likely that the visiting Robins will glide into town with a mixed squad but whoever lands at the Bob Lucas stadium will no doubt ask some different questions of the boys in claret and blue as we continue to prepare for the season proper. Gaffer Warren Feeney is certainly “looking forward to the game” against a “great club with great people” and one that helped us out with loan signings at the back end of last season.
And both teams have enjoyed their summer so far – the form guide shows our pre-season games have produced two wins from three whereas Swindon have swooped away from their summer fixtures to date with three wins from four.
In terms of the history of this fixture – Swindon last played the Terras back in a 2021 friendly fixture in Dorset when the visitors left in a bit of a flap as a strong representative side fell to a single goal from Brad Ash. That was considered our first ever victory against their first team.
Although we have played against the magic roundabout based outfit 40 times in our history, the vast majority of fixtures have been against their fledgling reserve sides, with the only competitive first team meetings being in FA cup ties, most recently in 1980.
Many Terras have flown the nest from Weymouth to play for Swindon in the past (or migrated the other way) including 70’s legends Rod Adams & Kevin Roberts. 80’s stalwart Gavin Sandrey was on the books there as a youth and more recently the likes of Brooklyn Genesini have fluffed their feathers in both nests.
But this week we will see if our current brood can upset the pecking order again against Swindon…
