St Neots Town vs Weymouth
Recap
Weymouth make light work of struggling Saints
ANOTHER efficient display meant the Terras recorded their second 4-0 victory in as many games, this time away from home at St Neots Town.
Boss Jason Matthews had to deal with the late loss of Ben Thomson, who was ruled out through injury on the afternoon, but that was not to hinder the visitors in going on and sealing a comfortable victory at the Cozy Stadium.
Thomson’s absence gave Matthews a decision to make ahead of kick-off and, despite the experienced duo of Stewart Yetton and Stuart Fleetwood among the substitutes, he opted to bring Conor Jevon into the starting XI to lead the line.
Assistant manager Mark Molesley took a place on the Terras’ bench.
The change almost paid early dividends for Weymouth as they set out on the front foot against the Saints, whose new manager Matt Clements took charge for the first time on the day.
Jevon raced in on goal after a precise ball from Chris Shephard, but the young striker was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up.
But on 17 minutes, the breakthrough came for Matthews’ men. A cracking delivery from Aaron Rodriguez found opposite winger Jordan Copp, who headed in at the back post to set the ball rolling.
Copp, who has now scored three times in two games for Weymouth, then looked to add another to his tally as he let fly from 25 yards but failed to keep his effort down.
Soon after, Shephard tried to get in on the act.
He chanced his arm with an absolute screamer from 30 yards and, somehow, Alex Archer in the Saints’ goal tipped the shot onto the bar and away to safety.
Shepherd and Copp then struck from range once again before, after the interval, Jevon added a second for Weymouth.
He tapped home with ease after a devilish delivery from Copp left the home defence unable to prevent the danger.
Rodriguez was then replaced by Fleetwood and Shephard made way for Charlie Davis before the Saints had their first real attempt in the game.
Declan Rogers’ effort from 20 yards out was shanked well wide.
Jevon then made way for Yetton, before Weymouth recorded their third to put the game beyond doubt.
Midfielder Dean Evans was on hand to nod a delivery from Davis into the bottom corner for 3-0.
With Weymouth cruising at this stage they managed to add a fourth through Fleetwood, who made it two goals in two games for his loan club.
He latched on to a through ball from Evans, rounded keeper Archer, and finished coolly to ensure Weymouth ran out comprehensive winners.
