Geoff Butler will run his eye over Weymouth’s next FA Cup opponents, tomorrow night.
The Terras boss is travelling to Wordsworth Drive to watch Taunton Town’s Second Qualifying Round replay against Tiverton Town.
The Dorset side have been drawn away to the winners in a £10,000 Third Qualifying Round showdown on Saturday, October 10.
Butler said: “I’m not concerned about being drawn away,” he said. “I think there’s less pressure on the players that way because at home the fans’ expectations are so high. It’s going to be tough whoever we play, even more so than it was against Chippenham. On paper, you’d have to fancy Tiverton to win the replay and they’d start favourites in the next round following the hammering they gave us at home in the league. But we went to Chippenham as underdogs and so the prospect of going to Tivvy holds no fears.”
He added: “But Taunton are going to be a difficult nut to crack, especially on their own park and the replay looks a tricky one to call. It’s an interesting draw whoever we end up playing and the £10,000 is obviously a big incentive to do well.”
If Dr Martens Western new boys Taunton do upset the odds, there will be the chance for a few of their players to renew some old friendships. Town, who are managed by former Weymouth defender Russell Musker, include ex-Wessex Stadium favourites goalkeeper Ryan Draper, Mark Gammon, Danny Bance and Chris Myers in their squad. Also on their books is one-time Dorchester Town centre half, Toby Redwood.
