TERRAS boss Geoff Butler received some welcome good news following Weymouth Reserves’ 4-1 success at Bashley last night.

Experienced defender John Waldock played a full 90 minutes for the Wessex Combination League leaders and could now figure in the Terras crunch Dr Martens Premier Division clash with Welling United on Saturday.

And Waldock, who has been out of action for more than a month with a thigh injury, capped his return by getting his name on the scoresheet late on.

Reserve boss Dave Kiteley said: “John did really well and it was great to see him back in action. A lot will now depend on whether he suffers any reaction but it’s obviously good news for Geoff.

“I held my breath when he went in for a crunching tackle towards the end of the game, but I needn’t have worried because he was soon back in the thick of it again.”

The championship-chasing Terras got off to a tremendous start at the Recreation Ground and were 2-0 up within the opening 10 minutes.

First Carl Mutch stole in at the far post to bury a Ryan Hill free-kick before Marc Whiteman converted a six-yard sitter after a great run and cross from Stuart Frear.

Bashley enjoyed a decent spell of pressure midway through the first half but the Foresters were unable to provide a real test for Paul Gadsby in the visiting goal. Weymouth made the points safe on 55 minutes when Whiteman grabbed his second of the night with a stinging left-foot drive from 20-yards.

The hosts did manage to pull a goal on 72 minutes but it was Waldock who wrapped things up when he nailed a close range volley, ten minutes from time, after a fine delivery by John Lamb.

Kiteley added: “It was another good result against a talented young Bashley team who were probably better than the scoreline suggest.

“A few of our lads like Marc Whiteman, Nathan Walker and John Lamb had been in action at Tiverton the night before and so all things considered, it was a good night for the club.”
