JASON Matthews was full of praise for the efforts of striker Ben Thomson after he got the Terras off and running at home against Chippenham Town last night.

The former Frome Town frontman headed in on the 15 minute mark before Chippenham’s Ollie Taylor struck just before halftime in the 1-1 draw.

But, on the whole, Matthews was content with his side’s display and reserved a special mention for hitman Thomson.

“I thought Thommo was a real handful. He is starting to find his feet in our team and I am really pleased with him.

“He was superb. I think in all the home games he has been superb and he was something we lacked.

“I am really glad to have him on board and I think he will be a massive asset for us.”

Speaking about the game itself, Matthews added: “The first 10 minutes I thought we allowed Chippenham to have a lot of the ball, which is unusual for us.

Then for 20 minutes I thought we played really well.

“We had a little spell at the end of the first half where we got a little bit sloppy, too confident, and played too many square balls in the wrong areas.

“It gave Chippenham a lift and they got their goal.

“I said a few things at half-time and we didn’t really get going second half.

“But, in saying that, in the last couple of minutes we could have got the goal.”

The Terras’ chief also revealed that Jordan Copp had not been able to take his place in the squad for the clash due to food poisoning.

He added: “We left it as late as we could but Jordan didn’t feel fit enough at dinner time.”

Pat Baldwin also missed out with a calf strain.
