WEYMOUTH player-boss Jason Matthews says he has a “50-50” chance of being fit enough to take the field at Bideford tonight (7.45pm).
Keeper Matthews aggravated the heel injury he sustained against Merthyr during the Terras’ FA Trophy defeat of Bedford on Saturday.
Steve Boore took over from Matthews some 10 minutes into the second half at the Eyrie and could start at the Sports Ground in Devon this evening.
However, speaking to Echosport yesterday, Matthews said he wasn’t ruling out the possibility of bringing in someone to provide cover between the sticks.
In other team news, Jake Wannell hopes to have recovered from a sickness bug in time to take his place in the matchday squad.
“It’s sore,” said Matthews about his heel. “Other than putting ice on it, there’s not really a lot I can do.
“I’ll see what it’s like before the game but I’m 50-50 at the moment so I’ve just got to hope it recovers in time.
“Steve Boore did really well when he came on at Bedford, but I might look for some cover before the match.”
If Matthews is fit to play then he will face a Bideford outfit on a run of seven games without defeat in all competitions.
Despite sitting 22nd in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, Sean Joyce’s troops are unbeaten in their last four league fixtures, while they also beat Brentwood in the FA Trophy at the weekend.
And with a few ex-Terras in Bideford’s ranks, Matthews knows the Robins will be a tough nut to crack.
“They’ve got some good players and a few who used to play for Weymouth, and they always want to do well against us,” he added.
“Their manager has got them set up well, it’s a tough place to go, and they’ve picked up some good results at home.

“But we’re looking forward to it and I’ve got to make sure all the boys are ready.”
Stewart Yetton scored an 89th-minute winner for the Terras in August’s reverse fixture at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
