WEYMOUTH remain on course to defend the Dorset Senior Cup following a 2-0 defeat of Verwood Town at Potterne Park.
Jordan Copp and skipper Stewart Yetton struck for the visitors in the space of three second-half minutes to settle the quarter-final tie.
Terras’ boss Jason Matthews rested a number of first-team regulars including Chris Shephard, Ben Thomson and Dean Evans, while there were starts for Aston Butcher, Matt Buse and Steve Boore.
“It was a good workout for the lads,” said Matthews. “I felt we did a thoroughly professional job.
“It was even in the first half and, without being disrespectful to Verwood, the pitch was bumpy and didn’t let us play the football that we like to play.
“But we’re through to the semi-finals and we also came away with a clean bill of health.”
After a goalless first half, Copp gave Weymouth the lead when he cut inside and drilled a low shot into the corner of the net.
Yetton then secured the visitors’ place in the last four with a scrappy effort from close range.
The Terras join Dorchester and Sherborne in the hat for the semis, while the one remaining quarter-final between Gillingham and Hamworthy United is still to be resolved after Tuesday’s clash was postponed.
