JASON Matthews was proud of his charges’ efforts to respond and bag a draw at Biggleswade Town after what he believes was an “unbelievable” decision in the build-up to the Waders’ first goal.
Inih Effiong struck the ball home for the hosts to open the scoring during the 1-1 draw following an indirect free-kick, after referee Alistair Wilson deemed the Terras had been guilty of a back pass.
Giving his view of the incident, Matthews told Echosport: “Ash (Wells) tried to make a clearance, it deflected off one of their guys and the referee deemed it as a back pass.
“You know it’s a bad decision when people behind the goal, who are the opposition’s fans, are laughing.
“It’s human error and it’s very costly for us.
“Credit to the boys for coming back from it but we probably should have gone on and won the game.
“It was an excellent performance and, personally, I feel that we have been undone by a pretty unbelievable decision. That was very frustrating really.”
Reflecting on the game as a whole, the Terras’ chief added: “It was a very good performance from us off the back of three defeats and there are a lot of positives.
“A few people stood up to the mark and, on the whole, we didn’t look like we were going to get beat.
“We should have won the game, there is no getting away from it, but coming away I am a happier man than I have been over the last two or three weeks.
“Yetts (Stewart Yetton) has lost half a stone and it shows in his ability levels on the pitch.
“I felt he took his chance excellently and on another day he would have probably gone on and scored a hat-trick.”
Matthews also confirmed Chris Shephard did not travel with the Weymouth squad due to a back injury.
He added: “Chris Shephard had a collision in training and has hurt his back again. We are going to get him in with a chiropractor and he was having treatment at the weekend.”
Departure wise, the Weymouth boss also took the time to wish winger Adam Kelly all the best for the future following his exit to join Salisbury.
“Kells felt that he went a little bit stale and got a little bit frustrated. I felt that it was probably time for him to move as well,” Matthews added.
“I wish him very well, he was a good servant for me and one of my first signings.

“We have left on the best of terms and I thank him for his efforts. He is a good lad, a big character in the dressing room but it also gives me a chance to freshen up my personnel and I will be looking to do that this week.
“We have been in the market for a while. I had been offered one or two last week as well as doing my own homework and looking at a few games.”
