JASON Matthews was proud of the way his Terras’ troops took their play-off push to the final day of the campaign with a 3-1 victory over Cirencester Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium.
A Chris Shephard penalty, followed up by goals from Mark Molesley and Ben Thomson ensured that Weymouth are still in the mix for a top-five place.
The Terras will be relying on Hungerford Town to help them out with a win at fifth-placed Leamington, as well as winning themselves at Chesham United on Saturday.
Speaking after the win against Cirencester, Matthews told Echosport: “I felt we played some good stuff at times.
“Between 60 and 70 minutes we had a little nervy spell and, with them scoring the goal, it made it a little bit tense.
“But Tommo scoring his goal put the game to bed and, on the whole, I feel that it was a good performance and a good way to sign off at home.
“I was disappointed that we conceded, but we move on to Saturday now to do our bit.”
On their ongoing quest for the play-offs, Matthews added: “Two seasons in a row now we have had something to play for on the last game of the season.
“We have to rely on a Hungerford win at Leamington now to sneak in there on goal difference. That’s where we are at and I would definitely like to go out with a win at Chesham after they beat us comprehensively at home.”
Matthews also gave his take on Cirencester’s Zak Kotwica’s dismissal, who was sent off for two bookings, both awarded for simulation.
“The ref has obviously seen it as two dives,” he added. “I felt the first was a little bit harsh but that’s football.”
